There will be no shortage of comic book adaptations hitting theaters in the coming years; one that’s been generating the most excitement thus far is Deadpool, the long-gestating solo vehicle for the fan-favorite Merc With the Mouth. Anticipation for the February 2016 arrival is all the higher now, thanks to a memorable social media campaign that included a costume reveal and confirmation that the film will be rated R (as was long hoped).

To those of you who still can’t believe this movie is actually being made, Deadpool has taken one step closer to being a finished product. Star Ryan Reynolds has announced that director Tim Miller has wrapped up principal photography, which began in March of this year.

The actor took to Twitter to share the news, and once again used the opportunity to thank the many Deadpool fans for leading the charge in giving the film a green light:

Whenever a film such as this concludes production, the question most want answered is “when will we get a trailer?” We would advise viewers be patient in that regard, as Miller has probably just begun the post-production process and wants to make sure he has some nice, finished shots to show off in a preview. For comparison’s sake, Zack Snyder wrapped Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in December 2014, and the first teaser for that film didn’t come out until April 2015.

Of course, J.J. Abrams finished shooting Star Wars: The Force Awakens in November 2014, and the first teaser for that film was ready for viewing later that month. So there’s really no precedent here. It’s a case-by-case basis, but more often than not, there is a little bit of an interval between “wrapped” and “trailer.” Given that Deadpool doesn’t come out for another nine months and Reynolds has been pumping it on his Twitter account, Fox shouldn’t be in any rush to launch the first wave of official marketing.

The other aspect about Deadpool that some will now be wondering about is whether or not this nixes the hope of a Hugh Jackman cameo. Just earlier this week, Reynolds had said he was remaining hopeful something could be worked out, but it would all come down to scheduling. Of course, that was a few days before the actor tweeted about production wrapping, so perhaps Jackman was secretly brought on to the set, or his potential appearance is being saved for any reshoots that may come about as Miller pieces the film together. Time will tell if Jackman will add to his record of superhero film performances with Deadpool.

Honestly, though, a short scene with Wolverine would merely be icing on the cake as far as this movie is concerned. At this stage, people are just happy Fox was willing to give Miller the go-ahead (after the project lingered in development hell for years) and allowed him the creative freedom to fully embrace the more adult elements of the source material – providing fans with a film that’s extremely loyal to the comics and worth the long wait. If the “leaked” test footage is any indication, Miller certainly has a strong understanding of what makes the character work.
