Ex-president Donald Trump says he’ll launch a new media company with its own social media platform.

Trump has been kicked off the likes of Twitter and Facebook, so is now back with his own social media app, ironically called ‘Truth’.

The former president says his goal in launching the Trump Media & Technology Group and its TRUTH Social app is to create a rival to the Big Tech companies that shut him out.

In a statement, he said: ‘We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favourite American President has been silenced.
‘This is unacceptable.’

Trump has spoken about launching his own social media site ever since he was barred from Twitter and Facebook.

An earlier effort to launch a blog on his existing website was abandoned after the page drew a dismal number of views.

In addition to the app, which is expected to soft-launch next month, with a nationwide rollout in the US early next year, the company says it is planning a video-on-demand service dubbed TMTG+ that will feature entertainment programming, news and podcasts.

Trump was banned from various platforms in the wake of the riots at Capitol Hill in January, in the final days of his tumultuous presidency.

His provocative use of social media was a defining feature of his time in office, as he drew 88 million followers to Twitter, where he regularly slated critics, hired and fired staff and sparked diplomatic incidents.

But Twitter permanently suspended his @realDonaldTrump account after he appeared to encourage supporters to take part in the violent storming of the Capitol building on January 6.
