It won’t be long now until fans are on the receiving end of a plethora of gaming announcements and blockbuster reveals as a result of this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo – also referred to as Christmas for gamers. While gaming hopefuls await next week’s event, however, Game Informer has revealed details on one of the most anticipated games being featured at the showcase, Halo 5: Guardians.

Many followers of Microsoft’s sci-fi epic have been chomping at the bit for more details on Master Chief’s next adventure, and the aforementioned publication has decided to pull back a little bit more of the curtain covering Halo 5: Guardians‘ campaign and the main cast of Spartan soldiers that will occupy it.

For those that missed out on the live-action trailers for the game, the focus of the story seems to be on Master Chief and his pursuer Agent Locke, the latter of which is a newcomer to the series that made his debut in Halo: Nightfall. While these are the central and playable protagonists, however, details have now arrived for the game’s supporting cast.

As many fans are likely well aware, John 117 and Locke will each have their own teams of Spartan soldiers helping them on their missions. Master Chief’s goal is currently unknown, but Locke’s objective is to locate Chief and his team – although his intentions when he does so are still shrouded in mystery.

There will be three additional soldiers backing up each team leader, with Linda, Kelly, and Fred making up the Chief’s squad. Fans of the extended Halo universe will recognize these soldiers as longtime allies throughout MC’s entire war-centric career. These four are known as Blue Team, and their plans should be made clear as the story gets underway.

Meanwhile, Locke is the head of a team known as Fireteam Osiris and it’s composed of three additional teammates, including Halo 3: ODST‘s Edward Buck played by none other than a returning Nathan Fillion. The rest of the team is made up of newcomers Tanaka and Vale, but their inclusion will be much more than just a way to justify 4-player co-op – and the same can be said for all of the other Spartans as well.

Each character will have their own unique load out upon booting up a level, which means each will immediately feel distinct from one another. Furthermore, these heroes will go through environments with their respective team leaders, with solo users being able to direct their A.I. controlled teammates with the push of a button. As a result, they’ll be featured in all of the cutscenes that occur during the main story, which means they’ll have a much greater involvement in the overall story than past side characters.

Game Informer has the exclusive on all of this news (plus more), so be sure to check out the print magazine for more details. Those that don’t want to pick up a paperback copy, however, can opt for the digital edition right now.

Halo 5: Guardians will launch exclusively for the Xbox One on October 27, 2015.
