Fans Tom Hanks and Elvis will have to wait a little longer for the upcoming Elvis biopic, as the film will be postponed until 2022. Academy Award winner Tom Hanks will star in director Baz Luhrmann’s film, written by Luhrmann and Craig Pearce, which will depict the life and career of musician Elvis Presley, known as "The King of Rock and Roll", through the relationship he had with the man who discovered him. Hanks will be portraying Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis's enigmatic manager for over 20 years, and already has a new look as the suspicious representative. The film will be produced by Luhrmann, Gail Berman, Catherine Martin, Patrick McCormick, and Schuyler Weiss. Luhrmann has previously directed such hit films as Moulin Rouge!, William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, and The Great Gatsby. The cast also includes Austin Butler headlining as the title character, Olivia DeJonge, Yola, Luke Bracey, and Kelvin Harrison Jr.

Now Warner Bros. has announced that the premiere will be delayed until June 3 of next year, almost seven months after its scheduled date of November 5. The film was originally scheduled to open October 1. Filming began approximately last year before being halted due to Hanks testing positive for the coronavirus in March.

The film is still currently in production in Australia, as filming had resumed back in September. Despite the original 2021 release dates, Elvis was not included in the list of movies that Warner Bros. has decided to release simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max due to the severity of the pandemic. For a picture about the life of Elvis Presley starring Hanks and directed by one of the most commercially successful filmmakers, the film has all the ingredients of becoming a potential blockbuster, so not releasing it on HBO Max makes sense, especially since the decision was controversial. With the premiere now extended until the next year, the excitement and anticipation from the audience can only increase.
