Ryan Gosling has been cast as Ken opposite Margot Robbie's Barbie in the movie adaptation of the classic doll line. Barbie is a fashion doll line created in 1959 from Mattel, which has remained a mainstay on toy shelves and in popular culture ever since, spanning multiple dolls, accessories, clothing lines, animated series and films, and countless other merchandising items. The toy line has been the subject of all manner of controversies, celebrations, copycats, and more, making it one of the most recognizable brands in the last six decades.

Writer/Director Greta Gerwig signed on to direct a film adaptation (with a script co-authored with Noah Baumbach) of the property after numerous attempts were made to bring it to live-action throughout the years. Gerwig has won acclaim for her work on films like Lady Bird and Little Women, making her a top choice for the gig. Robbie is producing the film under her LuckyChap Entertainment banner, and it appears that Barbie has finally found her Ken.

Gosling just wrapped filming on The Russo Brother's adaptation of The Grey Man with Chris Evans and is gearing up to play the lead in Leigh Whannel's Wolfman for Blumhouse. Robbie debuted another go as Harley Quinn in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad earlier this summer and just wrapped up roles in David O. Russell's next untitled film, as well as La La Land diretor Damien Chazelle's Babylon with Brad Pitt. Robbie is also appearing in Wes Anderson's next film, Asteroid City, co-starring Tom Hanks and Scarlett Johansson. Barbie is expected to begin shooting in early 2022.
