Developer Techland confirms that Dying Light 2 will still be releasing in 2021 with a gameplay teaser, which followed a short video of the development team reading and responding to would-be players' online impatience and name-calling. Though it's an open secret that Dying Light 2's approximately 6-year-long production has been anything but smooth, having been so far marred by high-level studio departures and reported mismanagement, it's clear the Techland has had enough with the discourse surrounding its unreleased product.

The Dying Light sequel was delayed once back at the start of 2020, at which point it was pushed to a 2021 release window. Because of Techland's widely reported and purportedly ongoing development issues, it's been widely assumed that Dying Light 2 would be delayed again, if not outright canceled. This narrative has been lent justifiable credence by internal reports surfacing that poor leadership at the Polish studio is to blame for the difficulties staff has had in getting the game to a shippable state, problems likely only exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, though, Techland wants to set the record straight. Appended to a very brief Dying Light 2 gameplay teaser affirming the title's 2021 release window, employees read off angry, profane (and, in some cases, nonsensical) tweets directed at the studio. Techland promises that it will be "ready to talk about Dying Light 2 very, very soon" and that the team is happy to be in the online spotlight "no matter how you express your feelings." The developer offered no specifics on what further developments players can expect or when.

While Techland's upper management's failures are well-documented at this point, the studio members featured in the post-Cyberpunk 2077 CD Projekt Red-reminiscent video raise an excellent point. It's wholly unfair that individuals who didn't make the decisions that have negatively impacted Dying Light 2's development should have to suffer on two fronts, being mistreated and exploited at work and rushed and harassed by "fans" online.

Dying Light 2 news has been a long time coming, with this very brief and somewhat tense update having been teased back at the tail end of 2020. All things considered, it may be a good while longer until prospective players hear anything more, and they should keep in mind who should be pressured on the issue and who's just caught in the crossfire.

Dying Light 2 will be available in 2021.
