Although it won't be accessible for some time until after launch, leaked Halo Infinite Forge mode data suggests it will include a scripting system, theoretically allowing players to craft campaign-style missions and more complex custom games. Halo Infinite's Forge was delayed to 2022 alongside campaign co-op in August, but it appears some game files from the most recent pair of multiplayer technical previews already carried some Forge-related code.

Since Halo 3, Forge mode has been a staple feature of the Xbox console-exclusive series. Having evolved with each entry prior to Halo Infinite, Forge empowers users to take existing maps and a given entry's weapons, vehicles, and object sandbox to create their own arenas. The mode usually is closely linked to Halo custom games, where players gather outside of normal matchmaking to play on user-generated maps with their accompanying custom gametypes in private matches. There was community outrage when developer 343 Industries announced Forge's delay to the upcoming game's third season. Now, it appears a first look at a potential Forge feature has been gleaned from the latest Halo Infinite multiplayer tech preview.

Shared on Twitter by Halo Infinite Leaks & News, a full scripting system has allegedly been spotted in Halo Infinite's code (via Wccftech). Using visual nodes, the Forge mode leak implies creators will be able to set victory conditions, set special spawn protocols, teleport players and objects, and more in Forge. Depending on the scripting system's limitations, it could hypothetically let players create their own missions with special objectives, or - at the very least - more closely control how custom games play out on Forge-made Halo Infinite maps. Videos shared by Halo Infinite Leaks & News supposedly show the scripting system in action on PC.

It can't yet be determined if the images and videos are legitimate and/or representative of what will ultimately launch in Forge, but the scripting system isn't the only alleged Halo Infinite leak to spring out of the game's public playtests. Dataminers recently shared a wealth of assets from the tech previews, including unrevealed emblems, armor and attachments, and Halo: Reach-like Spartan helmet and death effects. While that datamine and the Halo Infinite Forge mode leak originate from different sources, the contents of the former (as some of the cosmetics are holiday-themed) will be put to the test much sooner than Forge's scripting. Once other leaks are proven or disproven, it might be an effective indicator as to whether or not the Forge mode leak might ultimately pan out.

Although 343 is advertising Halo Infinite as the most ambitious game in the franchise yet, there are many features and inclusions some point out are missing, and campaign co-op and Forge are just two of them. Having introduced Big Team Battle in the latest multiplayer, some players are petitioning for Halo Infinite announcer to be added to BTB by launch, as Jeff Steitzer's voice is currently not included in the multiplayer gametype. Should scripting be missing from Forge when it arrives in Halo Infinite six or so months after launch, it may become the subject of its own player petition.

Halo Infinite will be available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC on December 8, 2021.
