Amidst growing concerns surrounding the corona virus threat, the remainder of the Australia-New Zealand ODI series has been postponed. This comes a day after the first ODI of the three-match series was played behind closed doors in an empty Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday (March 13). The teams were to play the second and third ODI on March 15 and 20 respectively.

New Zealand have taken a cue from several countries around the world and their ways to combat COVID-19, and enforced a mandatory 14-day self-isolation for anyone who enters its borders from Australia after midnight of Sunday. This has prompted NZC to bring back their players home at the earliest.

The WHO-declared pandemic has also led to the postponement of Australia's tour of New Zealand that was to follow, where the two teams were to play three T20Is on March 24, 27 and 29.

These two series have now joined a growing list of bilateral and multilateral cricketing events which have now been put on hold owing the virus threat. Interestingly, Cricket Australia has yet to take a decision in this direction for its premier domestic tournament - Sheffield Shield. As per schedule, the 10th round of matches are set to begin from next Tuesday (March 17).
