It’s quite common for PC versions of games to be released later than their console counterparts, whether due to exclusivity contracts or the developers needing additional time to get the PC port working correctly. PC gamers were surprised by the announcement that work on the PC version Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain had been completed early, and that Konami would be releasing the latest Metal Gear for PC on the same day as the console versions.

However, one of the most important aspects of playing a PC game was left unanswered: the system requirements. PC gamers who are interested in picking up Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain can now read up on the system requirements and see if their PCs are up to the task.

The system requirements for the game have been posted to the game’s official listing on the Steam store. Online Community Manager Robert Peeler also brought the update to gamers’ attention on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain‘s official Steam discussion board. The system requirements are as follows:

Metal Gear Solid V System Requirements PC Version

Most notably, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain appears to have discontinued support of Windows Vista, though gamers were able to play Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes with that OS. The system requirements also make no mention as to whether the newly-released Windows 10 is supported. The core system requirements otherwise are nearly identical to those needed to play Ground Zeroes, with the exception of more RAM and hard drive space being necessary to play The Phantom Pain.

PC users whose systems aren’t quite up to the system requirements may still be in luck. Several users on the Steam forums have reported that while their systems didn’t quite reach the necessary minimum for Ground Zeroes, they were able to play it with high-quality settings enabled. While the only guaranteed way to be able to play The Phantom Pain is to meet or surpass the system requirements, it’s possible that gamers whose PCs could handle Ground Zeroes comfortably will be able to do the same with The Phantom Pain since it has nearly identical requirements to Ground Zeroes.

Gamers who already regularly use their PCs for modern video games should be able to handle Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain‘s system requirements. For those who can’t, you have just shy of a month to get your system upgraded before the game’s release.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will be available on September 1st for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
