The announcement of the new Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack is not going over well with fans, as is evidenced by the latest trailer's dislike count. With over 50,000 dislikes on the latest trailer and counting only days after the trailer went online, the announcement seems to be a rare misstep by the gaming giant. The dislikes have little to do with the quality of the video itself but are more a reflection of Nintendo fans' anger at the recent announcement regarding the Expansion Pack.

Nintendo fans were shocked to find that the soon-to-be-released Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack would cost $49.99 per year. A full $30 more than Nintendo Switch Online's basic package, fans expressed their overwhelmingly negative opinions to the announcement online. This came just a few weeks after the announcement that the Expansion Pack would allow players to access and play classic Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis games on their Nintendo Switch. What was previously seen as a massive marketing win for Nintendo quickly turned sour as players balked at the price to play some of their favorite classic games.

This anger has spilled over onto the announcement trailer's YouTube video on the Nintendo channel. Only two days after the trailer was posted, the video has already garnered over 50,000 dislikes, compared to only 15,000 likes. With over a 3:1 ratio of dislikes to likes, the video is on track to become one of the most unpopular videos on Nintendo's channel. And, just as fans did on Twitter following the announcement, the video comments are full of fans expressing their outrage at the price of the Expansion Pack.

The announcement that Nintendo Switch owners were going to be able to access classic Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis games at last month's Nintendo Direct was incredibly popular. Players were salivating at the notion of getting to replay classic games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or Mario Kart 64. It was also seen as an opportunity for older games to share their childhood experiences with their children and help bridge the gap between gaming generations. Instead, the move has Nintendo reeling.

It's not the first time that Nintendo has found itself in a PR snafu when it comes to the Switch. Nintendo disappointed its fans with the recent Nintendo Switch OLED announcement, as many players were anticipating that the next version of the Switch would have 4k capabilities and improved hardware. But even that disappointment didn't anger Nintendo fans to the same level that the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack's price appears to have. Nintendo has yet to publicly comment on the fan response to the announcement.
