It appears that Dragon Age 4 is destined to be on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S only as well as PC, forgoing the previous generation of consoles entirely. The next installment in Bioware's popular fantasy RPG series is currently a long way off with an unspecified release date in 2023 for Dragon Age 4.

Fans have been waiting a long time for a follow-up to 2014's Game of the Year: Dragon Age: Inquisition. Bioware first confirmed that they were working on Dragon Age 4 back in 2018, but information has been slow to roll out in the intervening years. Players are beginning to get a sense of what the new installment might be like thanks to a steady stream of concept art, a teaser at the end of 2020, and some behind-the-scenes special looks. Now players know for certain what hardware will support Dragon Age 4 when it finally launches.

According to VentureBeat, Bioware's newest addition to the Dragon Age series will only be available on current-gen consoles and PC only. Fans with previous generation consoles such as PS4 or Xbox One will not be able to play the new installment. VentureBeat acknowledged that this is not a surprising reveal as developers begin to move on to fit their games to the latest technology.

Given that Dragon Age 4 is currently set to debut somewhere between two to three years after the launch of both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, it makes sense that Bioware is focusing solely on the current generation. Given that Bioware won't be limited by the constraints of old technology to make Dragon Age 4 an epic single-player experience, the fan base now has some inclination of the scope of ideas the game might have.

Bioware appears to be taking its time with the next Dragon Age and given all the behind-the-scenes information shared to date, fans should be excited. The developers have done much to indicate this is a passion project including taking around nine years to develop the next title, fighting EA to keep multiplayer out of the installment, and now fitting the game to the prime technology of the day. There is still a lot of time between now and the title's launch, however, there is also a lot for Dragon Age fans to theorize about in the meantime. Hopefully, Dragon Age 4 will live up to all the work the team seems to be putting into it.

Dragon Age 4 will reportedly hit stores for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC sometime in 2023.
