Colin Farrell's The Batman spinoff show, The Penguin, has officially released its first trailer. The Batman universe is getting fleshed out as Matt Reeves is working on a couple spinoff series. One of them is The Penguin, which will feature Farrell returning in the role of Oswald Cobblepot.

The Penguin went into production a few months ago, adding new cast members before cameras started rolling. As Warner Bros. Discovery is previewing its new Max service, an early first look via The Penguin trailer was revealed by HBO Max.

While an exact date has yet to be set, The Penguin will premiere on Max in 2024. The Penguin season 1 will consist of eight episodes with Lauren LeFranc as the showrunner.

Everything The Penguin Trailer Reveals About The Batman Spinoff

The trailer frames The Penguin as "the next chapter in The Batman saga," taking place after the 2022 film. There have been rumors that Robert Pattinson's Batman may appear in the show. The series will tackle what becomes of Oswald's life after Gotham City was flooded. But as the trailer makes it very clear, Oswald is not giving up on Gotham as his city to rule.

While her name is never revealed, Shohreh Aghdashloo's character appears to be Oswald's new rival. Whoever Michael Kelly is playing, his character is tied to Aghdashloo based on the footage. Rhenzy Feliz's mystery player, however, will be someone who aids Oswald while learning the ropes. The Penguin trailer also indicates that Cristin Milioti's Sofia Falcone will be crucial to Oswald's story.

It will be fascinating to see how The Penguin show is executed with Oswald as the lead. There have never been any Batman-related TV shows where one villain in particular headlines it. Outside of Gotham, which was an ensemble, The Penguin is adding something new to the Batman media landscape.
