CD Projekt Red is currently experiencing unprecedented success thanks to the release of their almost universally adored RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game managed to sell over 4 million copies in just its first two weeks on sale, allowing it to become the top selling game of May 2015.

Gamers have taken to the absurdly massive Witcher 3 for a number of reasons. It offers an expansive, gorgeous open world to explore, an engrossing storyline, and is absolutely stuffed with side content. One of the most popular pieces of side content in the game doesn’t come in the form of any typical quest line like in most RPGs, however. One of the reasons why so many have found The Witcher 3 hard to put down is its incredibly addicting card game, known as Gwent.

For those out there that want to see what all the fuss is about with Gwent, the best course of action is to purchase the critically acclaimed Witcher 3. For those that are not yet convinced to take the plunge on the game, however, there is now a new way to experience Gwent, though it will require the purchase of a game completely unrelated to The Witcher series.

Mr.RiZZaH, a Steam Workshop user, has created a Gwent mod for the game Tabletop Simulator. Simply purchase Tabletop Simulator (which is, at the time of this writing, available at a discount thanks to the Steam Summer Sale), and then download the free mod. The mod is an almost exact replication of Gwent as it appears in Witcher 3, but with some minor tweaks in order to better balance the multiplayer experience. Another thing to keep in mind is that the Gwent mod does require at least two players to function, as there is no AI to play against, unlike in The Witcher 3.

Gwent is just one of the many side activities available in Witcher 3 that has proven popular among players still seeing everything that the mammoth game has to offer. Even though Witcher 3 already boasts a script that is longer than four novels, CD Projekt Red continues to add content to it through free DLC, and there are two large expansion packs on the way as well.

The new content that CD Projekt Red is releasing for Witcher 3 includes updates to Gwent, expanding the game within a game even further. In fact, the latest free DLC released for Witcher 3 added new Gwent cards, and it’s possible that future DLC will expand the card game even more. It’s unknown if the Gwent mod for Tabletop Simulator will be updated in the future to include any of the new Gwent cards as well, but time will tell.

The Gwent mod shows that there is plenty of interest in the card game from The Witcher 3, perhaps even more than CD Projekt Red could have predicted. If the mod is successful, it may convince them to release an official standalone Gwent game down the road, or at least focus more on it in future updates and DLC.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
