For fighting game fans, there aren’t many upcoming titles more exciting than Street Fighter V. The series is almost certainly the biggest in its genre, particularly given that Street Fighter IV returned its status as one of the biggest names in video games.

We first heard word that Street Fighter V was on its way earlier this year, and that the game would be exclusive to the PlayStation 4. Just this week, Capcom re-iterated that this deal would stand for the duration of the title’s lifespan, much to the disappointment of many Xbox owners.

The studio has shown off glimpses of Street Fighter V at various fighting game events in recent months, but it’s expected that we’ll see it in much more detail at E3 2015. To tide fans over, four full matches have been released today, showcasing Ryu, Nash, Chun-Li, and M. Bison.

You can see Ryu take on Nash at the top of the page, but here are links to the other three bouts that have been uploaded:

New footage of a hotly anticipated title such as this is always welcomed by fans, but in the fighting game genre it’s particularly important. Trailers are great for building excitement, but it’s only full matches that will give aficionados a real idea of how the tried and tested mechanics of the series are being modernized for this new installment.

Coupled with an embargo on gameplay impressions being lifted today, we’re about to learn a whole lot more about how Street Fighter V plays. From what we know now, it seems like the biggest challenge players will face is getting to grips with the V-System, which is comprised of V-Skill, V-Trigger and V-Reversal.

V-Skill is a technique unique to each character that helps cover up some of their deficiencies. It can be related to either movement, offence or defence. V-Reversals use up part of the V-Gauge and allow players to counter an opponent’s attack, with other properties to the move depending on the character being used.

The V-Trigger is an ability that’s been compared to Ultras from Street Fighter IV, but instead of being one canned attack, it seems that there’ll be some kind of buff element to the way it plays into matches. A post from Capcom’s ComboFiend stated that “it is completely up to the player to properly utilize the benefits received from the V-Trigger to change the course of the match”.

There certainly seems to be plenty of depth to Street Fighter V, and we’re likely to learn a lot more about it over the course of the coming week. Stay tuned to Game Rant for coverage of all the latest developments, as they happen.

Street Fighter V is expected to release in March 2016 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
